Continual Atonement

Our God is the Lion, the Lion of Judah
He’s roaring with power and fighting our battles
Our God is the Lamb, the Lamb that was slain
For the sin of the world, His blood breaks the chains

You might be wondering why I titled this blog “Continual Atonement.”

Continual means:

repeated, frequent, recurrent, repeated, regular; persistent, nonstop; having no interruptions, constant, unending, perpetual, ceaseless, sustained, unbroken, relentless, eternal, everlasting

Atonement means:

reparation for a wrong or injury, compensation, recompense, payment, restitution, penance, amends, propitiation, deliverance, redemption

As a broken, fallen, sinful human being, I am in need of continual atonement. Through the blood of Jesus, this is what I receive every moment of every day. His mercy and grace flows over me continually to atone for my shortcomings. Just sit with that; breathe it in! Read those definitions above again. God, through Jesus, redeems my conscious and unconscious failures, my mistakes, my messes, my chaos, my lack of trust, my anxieties, my fears, my depression, my misunderstandings, my slips, blunders, errors, imperfections, addictions, lapses, pain I have caused others, oversights, envy, pride, bitterness, resentments, etc. – I have quite a laundry list on myself!

Continual atonement offers me forgiveness and hope every moment of every day in my broken, ugly places.

My ambition is to share my story, snippets of thought, humor, books, music, and more. And, just perhaps, together we will be encouraged, sharpened, refined, and lifted up. May our journey bring healing, peace, and joy. I want to know God’s love and healing; I want to know God’s continual atonement in a deeper, satisfying, and fulfilling way together.

Love you, mean it!
